Joint bank accounts and bankruptcy … will it affect my partner?

It would be best if opened your own basic bank account prior to bankruptcy, though you are still obliged to provide details of any bank account held over the past two years, joint or otherwise. Most banks are tolerant these days, but particularly Barclays, Lloyds and Cooperative, provided you do not owe them money. It would be best if you did not disclose the impending bankruptcy when doing this or they might ask you to return once the bankruptcy has taken place.

Bankruptcy UK offers bankruptcy help across the board and will submit your application online. Court appearances for bankruptcy are no longer required. Feel free to call us on 01425 600129 for a chat about your circumstances.
