My husband and i just became bankrupt after years of hell. He was a self employed owner driver of a tipper lorry. Diesel and lower rates in construction meant we lived on credit cards thinking things would improve. The day of the bankruptcy we had a ceremonial bonfire of all the frightening post statements and accounts assuming it was all over. Now the OR has requested to see it! What will happen? Can they get copies? Will we be punished? We thought it was all over how stupid!!
The best thing would be to say you shredded everything as you didn’t realise they were required. The Official Receiver usually writes to the creditors anyway, so if he required more information he could easily acquire it. The punishment you refer to is called a restriction where you remain bankrupt for several years, but these are not grounds for a restriction. It will be okay.
